The first gold medal of Paris Olympics went to the Chinese contingent.

The long-awaited Paris Olympics 2024 officially began today (July 27). The first day was full of breathtaking action which saw several countries put up numbers in the medal tally. China’s athletes secured the first gold medal in the mixed team air rifle shooting event and opened the country’s account which will surely see more medals added to it. 

Belgium, Japan, Kazakhstan, and Australia also won gold medals respectively and opened their accounts. Overall, 18 countries have won a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on day 1 and the edge of the seat action is only picking up pace. Considering the early stages, few medals were up for grabs, however, as the quadrennial event progresses, the participating nations will win more medals.

Australia currently sits on top of the medal table with four medals, including three gold. China is at close second with three medals. Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao won the first gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the mixed team air rifle shooting event. The powerhouse nation followed it up with its first gold medal in diving.

Chinese duo of Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen won gold in women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, pipping United States of America’s Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook and Britain’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen. 

As for Belgium, their gold medal came in the cycling event. For Japan, their first gold medal of the Paris Olympics 2024 came from the judo event, where they also won a bronze. Kazakhstan won a gold medal in the judo event while acquiring a bronze medal in the shooting event.

Australia’s first gold medal of the quadrennial event came from the cycling (road) event, and more is expected from the country in the forthcoming events.
