LeBron James will be making his last appearance at the Olympics.

The United States of America Olympics team will be determined to dominate the Paris Olympics 2024 and retain their title of winning the most medals for any team. They’ll be hunting for over 20 medals, especially in athletics and also eyeing gold in sports like basketball and swimming.

They have over 500 athletes competing in different categories. But, for a small number of individuals, Paris 2024 will be the last chance to bag precious medals. That is because their ages make it nearly impossible for them to perform at the top level in time for another Olympic Games.

Here we look at the top five USA athletes making their final appearance in the Paris Olympics 2024.

5. Meghan Musnicki

Veteran American rower Meghan Musnicki is poised to set a record at the Paris Olympics. She will become the oldest woman to row at the Olympics at the age of 41! She is a part of the USA women’s eight rowing competition and will be participating in what will be her fourth Olympic Games.

Because of her age, it’s only fair to assume that this will be her final tryst at the Olympics. Musnicki is an excellent rower, having already won two gold medals in the women’s eight category in rowing at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

4. Nicolas Fink

Nic Fink actually has a fascinating life in which he’s managed to perfectly maintain his ‘work-sport’ balance over the years. Even though Fink is a brilliant swimmer who holds the world record for the 4x100m medley and 4×50 mixed medley, he’s also an electrical engineering graduate! Fink works as an Assistant Project Manager for Quanta Utility and has taken time off to represent his nation in what will be his second Olympics.

But, the 31-year old isn’t getting any younger and will only be participating in the 100m breast stroke category. Fink has 10 gold medals won at the Swimming World Cup, but an Olympic medal has evaded him his entire career. This will probably be his final attempt to win a big one at the Olympics due to his age and he’ll want to produce one last hurrah to finally clinch that coveted medal.

3. Kyle Dake

33-year-old Kyle Dake has had an inspiring road to Paris Olympics 2024, winning a spot in the team after qualifying through the US trials. At a point when nobody could’ve blamed him for backing out, Dake fought through the odds to become the youngest wrestler in the US Olympics team.

A four-time NCAA champion and four-time Wrestling World Championship gold medal winner, Dake clinched the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. He faces stiff competition in the freestyle 74kg category and will need to show his strength against much younger and agile opponents. Dake needs to use his wits and unique strategy to soar past competition and have a chance at bettering his bronze-medal finish from the Tokyo Olympics.

2. Amanda Golini

Team USA will be aiming to make a significant impact in women’s field hockey at the Summer Olympics and try to pull out a surprise against some formidable opponents. But, the USA team is blessed to have a veteran player like Amanda Golini, who has earned over 150 caps for the USA women’s hockey team in her esteemed career.

Golini is currently 29 and heading into possibly the last stretch of her career. She will hope to achieve something big at the Paris Olympics. She has won bronze medals with the USA side at the 2017 Pan American Cup and 2019 Pan American Games, but will look to make a mark at the Olympics by producing her best performances.

1. LeBron James

Named as the flag-bearer for the USA Olympics team,  LeBron James has been given the ultimate honour of representing his country as one of its prime athletes. But, ‘King James’ also has the pressure on him to guide the star-studded US basketball team to win the gold medal.

He has already confirmed that Paris 2024 will be his final appearance in the Olympics, simply because he can’t see himself playing at the age of 41 (he’s currently 37). After helping the US team pick up a thrilling win over South Sudan recently, James will be determined to continue his impressive form. He’ll aim for that one last dance at the Olympics to thrill the fans with some more clutch performances and earn his third Olympic gold medal.
