India will contest for medals in at least five events on Day 10 of Paris Paralympics 2024.

As the Paris Paralympics 2024 moves into the fag end of the event, India continues to break new barriers and win more medals. Thanks to Praveen Kumar in the Men’s High Jump F64 event, India won the sixth gold medal in the event, their best-ever tally in Paralympics history. With a jump of 2.08m, the Indian ensured the national anthem was being played in Paris for the sixth time.

Hokato Hotozhe Sema repeated his Para Asian Games performance to clinch bronze in the Paralympics. With a throw of 14.65, he produced his personal best score to stand on the podium. Later in the day, Simran Sharma made it to the finals of the women’s 200m which is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Here are some of the athletes who will look to be medal winners for India on Saturday.

India’s medal contenders on Day 10 of Paris Paralympics 2024

Navdeep Singh — Para Athletics — Men’s Javelin Throw F41 — 10:30 PM

Navdeep Singh will eye redemption in Paris after finishing fourth at the Tokyo Paralympics. It was a surprising result as the Haryana man had won the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in February 2021. The thrower shot to fame when he won gold in the Asian Youth Para Games as a 17-year-old.

He will want to achieve his Paralympics dream with a medal in Paris.

Simran Sharma — Para Athletics — Women’s 200m T12 — 11:04 PM

Simran Sharma has qualified for the finals of the women’s 200m T12 event. She will be one of the four runners who will be running to get a medal. The Indian will be eyeing a gold medal much like she did in the World Championships in May earlier this year.

Simran, a double Asian Para Games medalist, missed out on a medal in the 100m race. The 25-year-old will look to be on the podium and get laurels for the nation.

Dilip Gavit — Para Athletics — Men’s 400m T47 — 12:30 AM

The name of Dilip Gavit gained additional attention when he won gold in the Para Asian Games last year. It was India’s 100th medal in the Para Games. The Maharashtra runner has been running hard to keep India’s flag high and the 21-year-old will look to do the same in Paris. Dilip finished third in the heats and if he can do it in the finals, it will again be historic for the nation.

Arshad Shaik — Para Cycling — Men’s C1-3 Road Race — 1:00 PM

At the Paris Paralympics 2024, Arshad Shaik will compete in his fourth event. The para cyclist from Andhra Pradesh is looking to improve his performance. In the three events so far, the 31-year-old finished in last place. He will be competing in the Men’s C1-3 Individual Road race.

Arshad will rely on his fighting experience to bounce back from his previous performances to qualify for the final if not win a medal.

Jyoti Gaderiya — Para Cycling — Women’s C1-3 Road Race — 1:05 PM

Jyoti Gaderiya, who missed out on a medal in the previous three races, will get another opportunity to compete in the Paralympic Games in cycling. Jyoti performed admirably, much like her male counterpart, yet she finished last in the races so far. However, she will be eager to get back on the cycle to battle with her rivals in an attempt to place in the top six and, most likely, on the podium.

Prachi Yadav — Para Canoe — Women’s Va’a Single 200m VL2 — 1:50 PM

Prachi Yadav will carry India’s push for a medal in Canoeing in the Women’s Va’a 200m VL2 event. The Para Canoeist is representing India in her second Paralympics after making her debut in Tokyo. The 29-year-old reached the finals in Tokyo but missed out on a medal.

The Asian Para Games gold medalist will look to win a medal in Paris as she made it to the semis with a timing of 1:06:83 which is better than her timing in Tokyo. She will be competing with eight others in the semis and the top six will qualify for the finals later in the day.
