India added four medals to its tally on day 7 of Paris Paralympics 2024.

Indian contingent at the Paris Paralympics 2024 has continued to make the country proud. The standout performer of the day was Harvinder Singh, who recorded his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian archer to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games.

Singh, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, first made history by reaching the finals in the men’s individual archery event. He defeated archers from Taipei, Indonesia, Colombia, and Iran to secure a spot in the final showdown against Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek. In the final, Singh emerged victorious, clinching the gold medal.

The day’s success was not limited to archery, as Indian track and field athletes continued to impress. Dharambir and Pranav Soorma made it a historic one-two finish in the men’s club throw F51 category, with Dharambir winning the gold and Soorma securing the silver.

Dharambir’s gold medal was India’s second in athletics and fifth overall, matching their haul from the Tokyo 2020 Games. Soorma’s silver-medal performance added to India’s growing tally, which now stands at an impressive 24 medals – their best-ever Paralympic showing.

Earlier in the day, Sachin Khilari had won a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final, further bolstering India’s medal count.

However, there was a bittersweet moment as well, as Bhavina Patil, the Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, lost in the quarterfinal round of the women’s singles table tennis event against the formidable Chinese player Zhou Ying.
