China extends its lead by a huge margin in medal tally of Paris Paralympics 2024.

Day 4 of the Paris Paralympics 2024 witnessed clear domination of a few notable nations. With only six days to go, the race to the top is looking tougher. China has maintained a steady lead which is increasing with each day. The upcoming days will unlikely see changes on the leaderboard as China’s contingent looks to continue their reign at the games.

The day started with Ukrainian athlete Oksana Zubkovska winning gold in women’s T 12 long jump as Spaniard Sara Martinez secured silver and Algeria’s Lynda Hamri settled for bronze. It was her fourth successive medal in the event.

The Indian contingent continued from where they had left off as two medals were added in the medal tally. Preethi Pal won her second medal by finishing third in the women’s T35 200m event. Meanwhile, Nishad Kumar clinched the nation’s seventh medal by winning the silver medal in men’s T47 high jump. India is currently placed 27th in the medal tally with one gold, two silver and four bronze.

Table topper and record breakers China has amassed 33 gold, 27 silvers and 11 bronze. Zhou Ying and Feng Panfeng won gold in para table tennis XD7 mixed doubles. It was followed by another top podium finish by Liao Keli and Shuo Yan in men’s doubles para table tennis MD 14. Over to para swimming, Yang Hong secured his second gold of the games by winning the men’s 100m breaststroke SB6 event.

Coming in second place in the day 4 medal tally of Paris Paralympics 2024 is Great Britain with 23 gold, 12 silvers and eight bronze. The 32-year-old, Benjamin Pritchard started the medal rush for his nation with a gold in men’s PR1 single sculls under-rowing. A few minutes later, the nation again won gold in mixed doubles sculls PR2.

USA has staged a late entry into the podium the medal tally. The nation placed third with eight gold, 11 silvers and eight bronze. Matt Stutzman won the gold medal in the men’s individual compound open under archery. Veteran archer, Jason Tabansky won gold in men’s individual W1·event. Meanwhile in men’s track and field events, Roderick Townsend won his third successive gold in men’s T47 high jump. 

There was descent for Brazil as it is now placed fourth with eight gold, four silver and 15 bronze. Alexandre Augusto clinched silver in mixed SH2 10m air rifle prone event. It was the nation’s best result of the day. Meanwhile, Lidia Vieira won bronze in women’s SM4 150m individual medley under swimming. Over to track and field, Rocha Andre came third in men’s F52 discus throw.

France is fifth in medal tally as of day of Paris Paralympics 2024. The hosts have won six gold, nine silver and 11 bronze. The 46-year-old Tanguy De La Forest won gold in mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2. There was clear domination in Women’s pursuit C5 3000m individual pursuit under-track cycling as Marie Patouillet came first and Heidi Gaugain picked up the silver medal.
