Great Britain breach triple digit mark in Paris Paralympics 2024.

Day 9 of Paris Paralympics 2024 saw multiple nations crossing milestones marked in the medal tally. The race for second and third spot is seeing a spirited fight between Great Britain and USA. China has established itself at the top and has been holding a healthy lead over others.

Day 9 of Paris Paralympics began with Ukrainian Yehor Dementyev clinching gold in men’s C4-5 road race under cycling. Kevin Le of France came in second while Martin Van of Netherlands finished third.

India again had a tough outing on day 9 of Paris Paralympics 2024. Praveen Kumar won India’s sixth gold in men’s high jump T64. With a best attempt of 2.08m, Kumar ensured his spot on the top of the podium. Hokato Hotozhe Sema won the second medal of the day for the nation. The 40-year-old secured bronze in men’s shot F57 with a throw of 14.65m. 

Even though it was a rough day for the Indian contingent, the athletes have won six gold medals surpassing the tally of Tokyo games. India is ranked 17th with six golds, nine silvers and 12 bronze.

China is on top of the medal tally of the Paris Paralympics 2024 with 83 golds, 64 silvers and 41 bronze. Liu Li reigned supreme in women’s 70 kg Judo J1. Tan Yujiao followed it up with a gold medal in women’s powerlifting in up to 67 kg. In swimming, the nation again swept the podium in the men’s 50m butterfly. Guo Jincheng, Yuan Weiyi and Wang Lichao took the honours respectively. Chen Yuandong won the nation’s 83rd gold in women’s epee under fencing.

Great Britain is determined to finish with a record breaking performance at Paris Paralympics 2024. The nation has won 42 golds, 34 silvers and 24 bronze. Sarah Storey came in first during the women’s C4-5 road race under cycling. In men’s 1500m T20, Ben Sandilands took the gold medal. The 100th medal for the nation came in swimming in the 4x100m Universal relay event.

USA may have arrived late at the top five of the medal tally, but has since made significant strides. It has accumulated 31 golds, 36 silvers and 19 bronze. Christie Raleigh-Crossley won gold in women’s 100m butterfly S9 as Leanne Smith followed pursuit in women’s 50m freestyle F4. Hunter Woodhall finished first in the men’s 400m T62 event.

Coming in fourth place is Netherlands which has won 24 golds, 14 silvers and 10 bronze. Tristan Bangma and Vincent Ter finished first, second respectively in men’s B road race under cycling. The biggest highlight of the day was in the women’s 100m T64. Fleur Jong, Kimberly Alkemade and Marlene Van won the top three places respectively.

Italy has upstaged France to be in fifth position of the medal tally. It has collected 20 golds, 13 silvers and 30 bronze. Assunta Legnante won the first gold of the day for the nation in women’s shot put F12. Matteo Parenzan won gold in men’s singles MS6 table tennis. Simone Barlaam won gold in men’s 100m butterfly. Giada Rossi won gold in women’s singles WS1-2 in table tennis.
