Indian Pickleball League 2025: Chennai strom into playoffs; Gurgaon–Lucknow thriller ends in draw on Day 4

Chennai Super Warriors became the first team to secure a playoff berth with four straight wins.

With a perfect win record after four games, Chennai Super Warriors became the first team to confirm a playoff spot in the Indian Pickleball League 2025 on November 4, Thursday.

The league leaders beat Bengaluru Blasters 4-2, after Lucknow Leopards and Capital Warriors Gurgaon had earlier played out a 3-3 draw.  

Looking to rebound from their previous day’s defeats, Gurgaon and Lucknow kicked off Gameday 4. The men’s singles saw Arik Badami come out swinging, but Ryler DeHeart exploited the spaces Badami left in pursuit of winners, closing out a crisp 15–5 victory to give Lucknow an early lead.

Gurgaon hit back immediately. Stavya Bhasin and Jack Munro found perfect harmony in the men’s doubles to fuel a 15–10 win, before Emilia Schmidt snapped back from Mihika Yadav’s early baseline stunners to take the women’s singles 15–8.

Schmidt and Naimi Mehta extended Gurgaon’s advantage with a composed 15–12 win in the women’s doubles, leaving Lucknow needing the Grand Rally to salvage a draw—and they delivered.

Shelby Bates ignited the charge with two audacious winners, an around-the-net forehand followed by a soaring backcourt lob in a decisive 21–12 finish. Tie drawn 3–3, DeHeart and Schmidt were named Players of the Tie.

Bengaluru Blasters, fresh off their maiden win, ran into unbeaten Chennai Super Warriors in the second tie of the day. Phuc Huynh gave Bengaluru the ideal launch, outlasting Aman Patel 15–13 in men’s singles.

Chennai steadied through Mitchell Hargreaves and Harsh Mehta, who edged Huynh and Arjun Singh 15–12 after a gritty, point-for-point kitchen-line battle.

From there, Roos van Reek took charge once again, racing to a 10–5 lead before closing out a commanding 15–5 win—her fourth straight in the league—over Pei Chuan Kao.

Bengaluru snapped Chennai’s unbeaten women’s doubles run with a crisp 15–8 victory, levelling the tie again at 2-2. Chennai, however, were in no mood to let their perfect record slip.

They burst ahead in the Grand Rally and closed out a dominant 21–10 finish to seal their fourth straight tie, 4–2. Mehta and van Reek claimed the Players of the Tie honours.

A day earlier, Lucknow Leopards and Hyderabad Royals met in the day’s final tie. DeHeart opened sharply for Lucknow, winning the men’s singles 15–9, while Divyanshu Kataria and Ben Newell claimed the men’s doubles 15–12 for Hyderabad.

From there, Megan Fudge dominated, winning the women’s singles 15–4 and doubles with Snehal Patil 15–10, before Hyderabad sealed a clinical 21–12 Grand Rally. Fudge and DeHeart took Player honours.

The Day 4 closing tie between Mumbai Smashers and Hyderabad Royals was underway at press time and will be updated in the subsequent round-up.

Chennai lead with 12 points from four straight wins, followed by Hyderabad. Lucknow sit third with Gurgaon fourth, Bengaluru fifth, and Mumbai winless at the bottom.

Chasing playoff spots, Mumbai Smashers face Capital Warriors Gurgaon, Bengaluru Blasters take on Hyderabad Royals, and the already qualified Chennai Super Warriors meet Lucknow Leopards in their respective final league stage ties on Friday.
