The highlight of a well-travelled career came when Mendy, playing for Hull City, scored a wonder-goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Prior to that, Mendy had played for seven seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, his boyhood club, after moving there from Caen in 2000. He signed off on his time with PSG by stroking home the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 2008 French League Cup final. His spell at Hull City, after leaving PSG, saw him become a fan favourite. Known as an attacking and speedy right-back, Mendy can also play in midfield and wing.
Mendy was an instant hit with the Chennaiyin fans owing to his attractive style of play and perhaps produced the moment of Hero ISL 2014 with a spectacular overhead kick-goal against Kerala Blasters FC. He was an integral figure for Chennaiyin FC during their title-winning campaign in 2015 and was one of the first players to re-sign for the Super Machans ahead of the new season.
