The left-back can also play at right and is adept at overlapping. Debabrata Roy started his career playing in the Subroto Cup and the under-16 league in West Bengal for Sporting Union Club. He was dispatched to the prestigious Tata Football Academy in 2000. His first taste of NFL/I-League action came while playing for Mahindra United in 2004-05.
In 2005-06, he transferred to East Bengal and stayed at the maidan club for three years before joining United SC on a three-month loan in 2009. In 2009-10, he returned to Mahindra United who seemed destined for I-League glory till Dempo spoiled their party. After the Mumbai outfit disbanded, ‘Debu’ joined Dempo in 2010-11 and continues to serve them with distinction. He has made 22 appearances for the FC Goa and will be entering his third consecutive year with the Gaurs having been a part of the side since Hero ISL 2014.
Represented India across all levels: under-16, under-19, under-23 and senior team.
Played for India in three World Cup qualifiers, 2008 Olympic qualifiers and 2006 Asian Games.
