Other than the medal, the rest of the shooters had an off day.

India had a weak day at the ongoing ISSF World Championships 2023 in Baku as none of the shooters qualified for the individual finals of the 10m Air Pistol menā€™s and womenā€™s events. The Indian shooters looked far from their best. The best result from an Indian perspective was the 16th position finish by Esha Singh with a score of 572 (four points off the qualification mark).

Menā€™s team win bronze, individuals disappoint

From the menā€™s contingent, no one could secure a quota for the Paris Olympics 2024. Shiva Narwal finished 17th, three points off the qualification mark, after having secured 579 points. Sarabjot Singh finished 18th with a point lesser than compatriot Narwal. Arjun Singh Cheema, the final menā€™s 10m Air Pistol participant from the country, finished 26th in the qualification period with 577 points.

However, the menā€™s 10m Air Pistol team did end as high as third place, thanks to the top half finish by the three male shooters. The team collectively scored 1734 points, three more than the shooters from Bulgaria and Turkey. The Chinese team scored 1749, and the German team scored 1743 points to finish in the top two positions.

Esha Singh was the only shooter to finish in the top 20 places during the qualification period. As aforementioned, she scored 572 points and finished 16th. The other two shooters had a particularly poor day at work, finishing 30th and 40th in the standings with 570 and 566 points. The womenā€™s team, thus, finished in 11th position in the team standings.

Jeet Singh and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa participated in the Menā€™s Skeet Day 1 Qualification and scored 48 and 47 points out of the possible 50. As many as 10 shooters finished day 1 with 50 points. With just two rounds finished out of the total five, one would give the skeet shooters a chance of making it to the finals. However, the performance of the rest of the pack makes the chances look bleak.

In the Womenā€™s Skeet Day 1 Qualification, Parinaaz Dhaliwal scored 71 out of the possible 75 points. Ganemat Sekhon scored 70, while Darshna Rathore scored 69 points. Parinaaz Dhaliwal may have an outside shot at making the finals, however, the other two shootersā€™ fate seems to be locked on Day 1 itself.
