Sharath Kamal, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran win silver in Hungarian Open

This is Sharath Kamal''s second medal in Budapest.

India’s Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran grabbed the silver medal in men's doubles category at the 2020 ITTF World Tour Hungarian Open in Budapest.

The Indian duo put up a good fight but eventually lost 5-11, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11 to the 16th seeds Benedikt Duda and Patrick Franziska of Germany in a 30-minute match.

Sharath and Sathiyan had been playing wonderfully all week. They had defeated the top seeds Ho Kwan Kit and Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong by a close margin of 3-2 in the semi-finals.

This is Sharath Kamal's second medal in the Hungarian Open. He has also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles category with his in partner Manika Batra.

Meanwhile, Suhana Saini reached the Round of 16 in the Cadet Boys' Singles section. The rising star Suresh Raj Preyesh also made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament.

Mathan Rajan Hansini put up an excellent display by bagging the bronze medal in the Mini-Cadet Girls' Singles category. It was her maiden appearance at an ITTF junior circuit event.

The 10-years-old Class fifth student registered some comfortable wins in the group stage of this International Table Tennis Federation event. She performed wonderfully in the main draw as well before going down to Russia''s Iuliia Pugovkina 12-10, 9-11, 5-11, 8-11 in a hard-fought semi-final match.

She started her main draw with a win as she beat Russia's Aleksandra Bokova 12-10, 9-11, 9-11, 3-11 in the Round of 16 and notched up a commanding 11-3, 12-10, 11-9 win over Isha Bajpai of the USA in the quarter-finals.
