The Czech Republic star beat Ukraine's Elina Svitolina to reach the summit clash.
Czech Republic's Marketa Vondrousova is the first women's singles player in the Open Era to have entered the Wimbledon Championships as an unseeded player and reach the finals of the main draw. She defeated Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-3 to secure a berth in the finals of Wimbledon 2023. Earlier Elina Svitolina got the better of the top seed Polish ace Iga Swiatek.
In the other semi-finals of women's singles, Tunisias sixth-seeded Ons Jabeur comeback from a set deficit to beat Belarusian second seed Aryna Sabalenka. Vondrousova will now face World No. 6 Jabeur in the title clash.
Marketa Vondrousova, with the win over Elina Svitolina, has entered her only second Grand Slam singles final. Earlier, she lost the French Open 2019 final to Australia's Ashleigh Barty. The 24-year-old's highest WTA ranking ever is World No. 14, while she currently ranks 42nd in the world.
Vondrousova may have become the first women's singles player ever to have qualified for the finals of the Wimbledon Championships in the Open Era as an unseeded player, but there have been two men's singles players in the history of the competition to have not only qualified for the finals but also win it at the Wimbledon Championships as an unseeded player.
German legend Boris Becker was the first one to do so back in 1985. Former Croatian player Goran Ivanisevic was the second player to do so when he won the tournament in 2001. Moreover, Goran is the only singles player to date in the Open Era to have won the Wimbledon Championships while entering the tournament as an wildcard.
If Marketa gets the better of her much more fancied opponent, she will become the first women's singles unseeded player in the Open Era to have won the Wimbledon Championships title.
