Players with most singles main draw appearances at US Open in Open Era

Venus Williams leads the list with 24 appearances
The last grand slam of the year, US Open 2023 is knocking on the doors starting from August 28 and will run until September 10, 2023. The tournament recently announced the wild card entries for men’s and women’s singles tennis players. In light of this, let us have a look at the players who have appeared the most number of times in the main draw of singles in Open Era.
Venus Williams
Venus Williams after being awarded a wildcard entry for US Open 2023, will compete it for the 24th time. The 43-year-old former WR 1 missed nearly six months of the season due to injury, but returned back for the grass-court season. Williams has never been one to give up and defeated Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets, a few days earlier at the Cincinnati Master, giving her the first top 20 victory since 2019.
The American took part in her maiden US Open two decades back in 1997 and will most likely be making her final appearance at the upcoming edition.
Jimmy Connors
Jimmy Connors has appeared in the US Open main draw for a record of 22 times and only Venus Williams has more appearances than the former World No.1. The eight time grand slam title winner triumphed at the three different surfaces of the US Open – hard, clay, and grass courts. He reached the final of the US Open in five straight years from 1974 through 1978, winning three times.
Martina Navratilova
Navratilova is regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time. She amassed the most major trophies in the Open Era (59) by winning 18 major singles championships, 31 major women’s doubles crowns, and 10 major mixed doubles crowns.
She won the women’s singles championship at Wimbledon nine times (1978, 1979, 1982–87, 1990), the Australian Open three times (1981–83, 1985), French Open twice (1982, 1984), and the U.S. Open four times (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987).
Serena Williams
Serena Williams, who has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, is the most successful tennis player of the Open era. The American legend made her Grand Slam main field debut at the 1998 Australian Open. At the age of 16, Serena Williams defeated the sixth-seeded Irina Spirlea of Romania before falling short to her elder sister Venus in the second round.
The American tennis player holds the joint-most US Open women’s singles titles won during the Open era with six victories on home soil. Serena Williams and Chris Evert both hailing from the USA share equal number of titles.
Andre Agassi (21)
Andre Agassi ties with Serena and Martina with 21 for the most number of main draw appearances. Agassi is the second of five men to complete the career Grand Slam during the Open Era, making him the fifth person overall.
His rivalry with Pete Sampras in the 1990s marked a pivotal era in tennis history. He has won eight total career grand slams, four of which are the Australian Open, two US Open trophies and a French Open and Wimbledon title each. After losing in the third round of the US Open, Agassi announced his retirement from competitive tennis on September 3, 2006.
