This is the Polish star's second ATP Masters 1000 title.
In a thrilling Shanghai Masters 2023 final, Hubert Hurkacz displayed his resilience, securing his second ATP Masters 1000 title in dramatic fashion. His powerful first serve, winning 81% of first-serve points and delivering 21 aces, played a pivotal role in his victory.
The match culminated in an intense third-set tie-break, where Hurkacz saved a match point to triumph with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(8).
Andrey Rublev, who had cruised to the Shanghai Masters 2023 final without dropping a set, faced a tough loss despite his strong performance throughout the tournament. In the semifinals, he overcame Grigor Dimitrov in a grueling match that featured a 76-minute first set.
Meanwhile, Hurkacz advanced to the Shanghai Masters 2023 final with a dominant win over Sebastian Korda, highlighting his exceptional serves and strategic play.
If Rublev had clinched the Shanghai Masters 2023 title, he would have been on the cusp of securing a place in the prestigious Nitto ATP Finals. However, with this victory, Hubert Hurkacz has etched his name among the elite in men's tennis, while Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner have already secured their spots in the year-ending event.
