Ken Rosewall achieved this feat twice in 1970 and 1973.
World no.1 Novak Djokovic is only the second player since Australian Ken Rosewall to bag 55 plus wins in a calendar year among men over the age of 35. Ken Rosewall won a total of 44 titles in his career, including 36 singles titles and eight Grand Slams. The French Open title in 1968 was Rosewall’s first win in the Open Era, defeating compatriot Rod Laver in four sets.
The 2023 season has seen several milestones fall under Djokovic. He has won the most ATP Masters titles (40), most ATP Finals wins (7), and most Grand Slams (24). The Serbian has also won 71 ‘big titles’ that include the Grand Slams, ATP Finals trophies, and ATP Masters titles.
Djokovic also replicated his feat of reaching all four Grand Slam Finals and the ATP Finals summit in a single season, a milestone he achieved in 2015. The Serbian also begins a record-extending 400th week as No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings this week.
The World No. 1 claimed his 98th title at the recently concluded 2023 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, defeating Jannik Sinner, who set a record of his own. Sinner is the first Italian to reach the summit clash of the ATP Finals in its 54-year history. Djokovic is five titles away from Roger Federer’s tally of 103 with Jimmy Connors, leading the way with 109 titles.
Novak Djokovic is scheduled to play in the Davis Cup, representing Serbia in their quarter-final face-off against Great Britain on Thursday (November 23). The final rounds of the Davis Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in Malaga, Spain. If Serbia makes it to the semifinals, then Djokovic and Sinner might find each other on opposite sides of the net for the second time in less than a week.
Italy take on the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Defending champions Canada will be facing first-time Davis Cup quarterfinalists Finland on Tuesday (November).
