The Australian Open 2024 men’s singles is down to the last four, with Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner set to face each other in the first semi-final on Friday (January 26).
Djokovic, the world No. 1 and 24-time Grand Slam champion, is chasing his 11th title at Melbourne Park, a feat that would break Margaret Court’s record of 24 major singles titles and equal her record of 11 Australian Open singles titles.
The Serbian star advanced to the semi-final with a four-set win over American Taylor Fritz, the 12th seed, by 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic has dropped only two sets in the tournament so far, and has extended his winning streak at the Australian Open to 23 matches.
Sinner, the world No. 4 and fourth seed, is aiming to reach his first Grand Slam final at the age of 22. The Italian sensation has been in impressive form, winning all his matches in straight sets, including a 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Russian Andrey Rublev, the fifth seed, in the quarter-final.
Sinner and Djokovic have met six times before, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 4-2. However, Sinner won two of the last three encounters, both in 2023, at the Davis Cup and the ATP Finals.
