February 11-17 – Qatar TotalEnergies Open

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has the envious record of winning two back-to-back titles at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, winning in 2022 and 2023. The doubles partnership of Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff prevailed in the 2022 and 2023 Qatar Open. It is mostly the Europeans who have dominated the singles proceedings at this tournament.

February 18-24 – Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships

The next stop on the WTA 1000 tour is Dubai, where Barbora Krejcikova is the defending champion. The Czech native had an easy day at the office, defeating top seed Iga Swiatek, 6-4, 6-2. Krejcikova went on to add two titles at the WTA 500 level in Zhengzhou and San Diego. Russian players Veronika Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova won the doubles trophy

March 6-17 – BNP Paribas Open

Elena Rybakina is the defending champion at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open – a WTA 1000-level event. Her opponent in the final was Aryna Sabalenka, against whom she has won three of their last four encounters. Rybakina’s victory meant she dethroned Polish player Iga Swiatek as the defending champion. Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic were winners of the doubles trophy against Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund.

March 19-31 – Miami Open

The Miami Open is the last of the hard court events till July, with the European leg of the WTA 1000 getting underway. The Miami Open was one of two titles won by Petra Kvitova in the 2023 season. Kvitova got the better of Elena Rybakina in Miami and Croatian Donna Vekic in Berlin. It was the turn of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula to shine in the doubles with a victory over Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend.

April 23-May 5 – Mutua Madrid Open

The Mutua Madrid Open trophy ended up in Aryna Sabalenka’s lap with a straightforward three-set victory over Iga Swiatek, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Beatriz Haddad Maia and Victoria Azarenka claimed the doubles with a victory over Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, who were fresh from their victory at Miami. Gauff and Pegula also won the WTA 1000 event in Qatar.

May 7-19 – Italian Open

Elena Rybakina romped home with the 2023 Italian Open just two short months after winning at Indian Wells. She was leading 6-4, and 1-0 when her opponent, Anhelina Kalinina had to throw in the towel, afflicted with a leg injury. Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens handed Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula their second straight defeat in a WTA 1000 event final, winning comfortably, 6-4, 6-4.

August 6-12 – National Bank Open

The 2023 National Bank Open marks a return to the hard courts, a tournament won by Jessica Pegula. The victim was Liudmila Samsonova, who gave in without a fight and lost 1-6, 0-6. Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara, on the other hand, were made to work for their win by Demi Schuurs and Desirae Krawczyk. The Japanese finally prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 in a game they made heavy weather of.

August 13-19 – Western & Southern Open

The 2023 edition of the Western & Southern Open was an all-American affair, with players from the United States winning both the singles and doubles trophies. Coco Gauff defeated Karolina Muchova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Alycia Parks and Taylor Townsend took three sets to see off Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6.

September 25-October 6 – China Open

The China Open at Beijing signals the last but one of the WTA 1000 events of the year. The China Open was being played after a three-year gap. Iga Swiatek won the 2023 China Open trophy and her second after the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. It was Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo who captured their first WTA 1000 doubles title of their career by defeating Chan Hao-Ching and Giuliana Olmos 3-6, 6-0, 10-4, in the 2023 China Open Final. The title was Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo’s second as a  doubles team.

October 7-13 – Wuhan Open

The Wuhan Open has been on a longer hiatus than the China Open and was last played in 2019 – a gap of four years. When the curtains rise on the 2024 Wuhan Open, Aryna Sabalenka will be in the running to make it three consecutive wins. In 2019, she defeated American Alison Riske. But in the doubles event, Sabalenka failed to win the trophy. She had partnered up with Belgian Elise Mertens, handing Russian/Chinese pair Yingying Duan and Veronika Kudermetova a straight-set win.
