His last win on the ATP Tour came on October 2023.
Andy Murray has finally snapped his four-month-long and six-match losing streak at the 2024 Qatar Open. The Scotsman defeated German qualifier Alexandre Muller in straight sets in their opening round 6-1, 7-6(5). Murray had gone without a victory since winning the first-round match against Yannick Hanfmann in the first round of the ATP 500 event at Basel, Switzerland on October 2023.
Murray’s string of losses began with a defeat against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the Round of 16 at Basel on 24th October and ended on February 20th, 2024, at Doha. Murray also made a disappointing first-round exit against Etcheverry in the Australian Open, losing 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to the World No. 32.
The veteran from Glasgow, however, faced defeat in the very next round to 18-year-old Jakub Mensik. The Czech Republic youngster defeated Murray 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 7-6(4) in a marathon match to move into the quarterfinals. Mensik had beaten fifth seed and 24th-ranked Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6(3), 6-4 in the first round.
Jakub Mensik became the youngest top 200 player on the ATP Rankings in July 2023. The rapidly rising Mensik defeated Denis Shapovalov in the first round as a qualifier on his Australian Open debut last month. He pushed big-serving Pole Hubert Hurkacz to five sets but ultimately lost the five-set thriller.
