Aryna Sabalenka vs Victoria Mboko prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Australian Open 2026

Sabalenka will play her sixth straight round of 16 in Melbourne.

The wins keep piling on for World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who has now extended her streak to eight in 2026. The Belarusian delivered a hard-fought win over Anastasia Potapova and booked passage into the fourth round, with a 7-6(4) 7-6(7) victory.

Sabalenka battled her way past the Austrian in a little over two hours and is up 3-0 in their head-to-head. She has also now won 23 of her last 24 matches in Melbourne Park.

The 27-year-old fended off four set points as the 55th-ranked Potapova sought a way back into the match. It was the closest the 24-year-old Austrian has come to defeating Sabalenka on the WTA Tour.

Meanwhile, Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko claimed a 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3 victory over Clara Tauson to make an Australian Open breakthrough. The World No. 16 celebrates her best result at a Grand Slam after advancing to the second week of the hard-court major.

Mboko, 19, could make her Top 15 debut the coming week after setting up a fourth-round and maiden clash with two-time champion Sabalenka.

The Canadian squandered three match points in the second set, allowing Tauson to force a third set. Mboko clinched the win in two hours, 19 minutes over the higher-ranked Tauson with a backhand volley winner. It took four matchpoints for the teenager to seal the outcome in her favour.

Preview

Mboko, the finalist in Adelaide last week, is one of five teens in the fourth round at Melbourne Park. It will be the first act of her rivalry with Sabalenka when they clash on Saturday.

If Mboko were to win, it would be a huge result in her first visit to Melbourne. She defeated Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka en route to the WTA 1000 title in Montreal last year.

Sabalenka was put through the wringer by Potapova for her first serious test at this year’s edition by Anastasia Potapova. The Belarusian is yet to drop a set ahead of her fourth-round clash.

In a Grand Slam tournament of firsts, it will be Mboko’s first match against a World No. 1 and an upgrade to Rod Laver Arena for her first time on Centre Court at a major.

One of the five teens still in the running, Iva Jovic, is seeded to meet the winner of the Sabalenka-Mboko match. Mirra Andreeva awaits further down the line, if she can get past the in-form Elina Svitolina and later Coco Gauff.

Match prediction

Victoria Mboko is the last Canadian standing in Melbourne Park and underdog against four-time Grand Slam winner Sabalenka. The top seed is a two-time winner in Melbourne, while Mboko is looking to reach her first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final.

Sabalenka showed her fragile side in the third round, needing a double tiebreak to continue her Australian Open campaign. Mboko has started the season in a rich vein of form, and this will be Sabalenka’s toughest match yet.

Sabalenka will fall back on her serve to keep her Canadian opponent under pressure while dominating from the baseline. It will be a good toss to win for the top seed as she fares better in her service games.

Result: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
