Danielle Collins reaches first Grand Slam final at Australian Open 2022

She will go on to face tournament favourite Ashleigh Barty in the summit clash.
27th seed Danielle Collins knocked out the 7th seed Polish Iga Swiatek in two straight sets at the Australian Open 2022. The first set saw both the players showing courage and forcing errors of each other. But it was the American who closed it down. Collins then carried the same momentum in the second set and didn’t allow the seventh seed to get back in the game at any point, closing the match with a score of 6-4,6-1. This made Collins reach her first ever Grand Slam Final.
On the other hand, first seed and world no.1 Ashleigh Barty outclassed the unseeded American, Madison Keys to book her place in tomorrow’s title clash. In the first set, Barty raced to a two-game lead but fell short in the third game. However, she ensured that the American didn’t set her foot completely and took the next two games. In the last game, Keys tried to give a fight back but couldn’t win it in the end. This helped the first seed take the first set 6-1.
In the second set, both players won game after game and didn’t give it easy to each other, taking the score-line to 2-2 . But Barty raced to a dominated Keys to win the game 6-1, 6-2. Thus, Ashleigh Barty took the match in straight sets and took her winning streak to 10 games now with no set lost. She thus maintained her status as the tournament favourite at the Australian Open.
Men's doubles
In the first Australian Open 2022 semi-final Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios, who were the wildcards this year emerged victorius against the third seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 7-6, 6-4. The first went to a tie breaker but the Australian ensured a smooth ride in the second game.
On the other hand, the second semi-final saw another upset with the Australian pair of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell downing the second seeds Rajiv Ram and Joe Salisbury in fine style. Ebden and Purcell closed the first set pretty comfortably. However, their opponents bounced back in the second set, taking it to nail-biting tie-breaker but fell short in the end. This helped the Australian take the set and win the match 6-3, 7-6.
Thus it will be the first All-Australian Australian Open final in the men's doubles category since 1980.
Women’s doubles
The first seeds Barbora Krejoikava and Katerina Siniakova had a straight game affair against their opponents V.Kudermetova and E.Mertens. The Czechs to the first set pretty comfortably and ensured that the third seeds did not find their rhythm. They carried the momentum in the second game and won the match 6-2, 6-3.
In the second semi-final, second seeds Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara went down fighting against the unseeded Beatriz Maia and Anna Danilina. The Japanese pair lost the first set but came back with interest in the second. The match came at a crucial point when the third seeds won led the third set. But both Maia and Danilina held their nerve and constructed some unforced errors from the Japanese duo. In the end they sealed the set and won the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the final of the Australian Open.
