All eyes will be on Swiatek, who hopes for redemption on the least favoured surface.

Bad Homburg Open 2025 serves as the final WTA-500 event before Wimbledon, offering players a crucial chance to fine-tune their grass-court game and gain momentum heading into the season’s third Grand Slam.

With many top contenders featuring, including Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Elina Svitolina among others, tennis fans can brace for another week of entertaining tennis action ahead of the All England Club. Here’s a look at the top five players who’ve pulled out of the Bad Homburg Open 2025.

5. Xinyu Wang

Xinyu Wang performed brilliantly in Berlin, defeating two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff, Liudmila Samsonova and Kasatkina to reach the final.

The Chinese withdrawal from Bad Homburg surprises none, as she was expected to play her first round in Homburg only a day after her Berlin final. Krueger replaced Wang.

4. Madison Keys

The Australian Open 2025 winner, Madison Keys, is one of those few top-10 players to have competed in two grass events in 2025. The American started well at Queen’s, losing to eventual winner Maria in the semis. Keys then suffered a first-round defeat to yet another eventual champion, Vondrousova, in Berlin 2025.

3. Qinwen Zheng

Qinwen Zheng started the grass season on a high, reaching the semi-finals in Queen’s. However, she withdrew from the Berlin Open, where she was slated to face Elena Rybakina in a blockbuster opening round contest. The Chinese now opted out of the Bad Homburg 2025 as well, as a precaution to be fresh for the prestigious Championship.

2. Paula Badosa

”I’m so tired of this. ❤️‍🩹”, wrote Paula Badosa on X, after being on the receiving end of yet another back injury, which puts her Wimbledon participation in jeopardy. Every time the Spaniard seems to gather steam, an injury hampers her progress, which can be extremely frustrating. The World No. 9 is now in a race against time to ensure full fitness for Wimbledon.

1. Aryna Sabalenka

Due to a hectic schedule, Aryna Sabalenka opted out of this tournament. The World No. 1’s only grass event this season ended in the semi-finals, losing to eventual winner and former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

The Belarusian continues her reign at the top of the WTA rankings and will be looking to win more points with nothing to defend, having missed the entire grass season last year due to a shoulder injury.
