Paula Badosa lost to Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open.
Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has arrived in Beijing ahead of WTA China Open 2024. Arriving in the Chinese capital a few days before the competition, Badosa decided to take a stroll around the city.
She recently took to social media and uploaded pictures from her outing in Beijing. In the picture, the former World No. #2 can be seen enjoying her time in the Chinese capital. She captioned the Instagram post, “Ni hao”.
Before arriving in Beijing, Paula Badosa went on a vacation with her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek tennis star was in Berlin for the Laver Cup, where he was a part of Team Europe under the captaincy of Bjorn Borg. Meanwhile, Badosa last played in US Open 2024, where she reached the singles quarterfinals.
She also teamed up with Tsitsipas to play mixed doubles, but the pair lost their first-round match at Flushing Meadows. Since March 2022, Badosa’s on-court form has been affected by injuries. In 2023, she missed the French Open due to a stress fracture in her L4 vertebra.
Due to back issues, her performance started diminishing. Even this year, the 26-year-old has suffered injury setbacks. Paula Badosa also slipped out of the top 100 as she was ranked No. #126 in April. However, she got a breakthrough at the Citi Open, where she defeated Marie Bouzkova to win her fourth singles career title.
She also reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters, where he came up short against America’s Jessica Pegula. She’s currently No. #20 in the WTA rankings with 2325 points. Badosa wasn’t a part of the China Open last year. As a result, she can improve her rankings before the year-end.

The likes of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Danielle Collins, Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina, Ons Jabeur, and Marketa Vondrousova are set to miss the WTA 1000 event. Thus, the Spanish tennis star has a decent chance of entering the top 10 rankings too.
However, the former World No. #2 would still have to fight the odds of Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng, Emma Navarro, Barbora Krejcikova and more to win on Asian soil. She has a win/loss record of 30/16 in 2024.
