Iga Swiatek and Coco gauff will meet in the women's singles final.

The French Open 2022 is close to its end after delivering exciting tennis action over the past few days at the Roland Garros in Paris, France. Several fabulous matches took place on Thursday, as the multiple categories are edging closer to completion. The Mixed Doubles category was the first to finish as the pair of Wesley Koolhof and Ena Shibahara emerged victorious. They beat Ulrikke Eikeri and Joran Vliegen in the final by a 7-6(7-5), 6-2 score to win the French Open title.

In the main offering, day 12 of the competition saw crucial semi-final clashes in Women’s Singles. Iga Swiatek reached the final after a dominating display against Daria Kasatkina. The top seed beat her opponent by 6-2, 6-1 to reach the final and looks favourite to win the Grand Slam. She will meet the American prodigy Coco Gauff in the ultimate fixture to decide the winner of the tournament.

The 18-year-old reached her maiden Grand Slam final by beating Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1 in the semi-final. She is the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova won the Wimbledon in 2004. However, the next match will be her toughest challenge yet with the World No.1 female tennis player standing between her and the French Open title.

Interestingly, she made a statement after the match, bringing attention to yet another shooting incident in her home country. “Since I was younger, my dad told me I could change the world with my racquet. He didn’t mean that by like just playing tennis. He meant speaking out on issues like this.” the 18th seeds said in her post-match reaction.

Rohan Bopanna crashes out in Men’s Doubles

Over at the Men’s Doubles bracket, Indian veteran tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matwe Middelkoop lost their semi-final tie to crash out of the French Open. This was the farthest that the 42-year-old Indian has reached in the Grand Slam for this category. But, he will not be able to lift the trophy after failing to beat the pairing of Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arevalo.

The other French Open semi-final saw another upset from the unseeded pair of Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek. They had eliminated top seeds Rajiv Ram and Joe Salisbury to enter the semis. Building on that performance, the duo got the better of fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos by a 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 scoreline.

The French Open final between Rojer/Arevalo and Dodig/Krajicek will take place on Saturday to see who lifts the title in Men’s Doubles category. On the same day, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will contest for the ultimate glory in Women’s Singles as well.
