Coco Gauff and Tamara Zidansek will be facing each other for the first time on the WTA tour.
American tennis player Coco Gauff is set to face Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek in the second round of the French Open 2024. Seeded third, Gauff made a dominant start to her Roland Garros campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Russia’s Julia Avdeeva.
The American tennis star has played eight matches on clay this season, winning five. Her best result came in the Italian Open, where she reached the semifinals. Thus, the former Roland Garros runner-up has her eyes set on the top prize in Paris.
Meanwhile, Tamara Zidansek hasn’t been in her top form in 2024. The Slovenian tennis star has lost 10 out of her 14 matches this season. Moreover, she’s currently ranked #131 by the WTA, but Zidansek’s current form at French Open 2024 has been commendable.

Coco Gauff vs Tamara Zidansek preview
Coco Gauff reached the final of the clay court Major in 2022, where she came up short against three-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek. During the last edition, she faced Swiatek in the quarterfinals, where she lost again.
Gauff won her first Grand Slam title last year in Flushing Meadows. However, she has struggled to win titles on the Red Dirt. The 20-year-old has played 33 matches in 2024, winning 25. Moreover, her only title in the ongoing campaign came at the ASB Classic in January. At the French Open, Coco Gauff recorded a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win over qualifier Julia Avdeeva.
Tamara Zidansek is a former WTA World No. #22, and she also reached the semifinals of the 2021 French Open, where she lost against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets. Interestingly, that was the only edition where Iga Swiatek failed to win the French Open.
During her most successful French Open campaign in 2021, she defeated former WTA World No. #2 Paula Badosa, Sorana Cîrstea, and Katerina Siniakova. However, since then, she has failed to reach the quarterfinals of any other Grand Slam. Zidansek made her way into the main draw after winning three qualification marches.
In addition to that, she defeated Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, in her first match in the main draw.

Prediction
On paper, Coco Gauff is the outright favourite to win the upcoming second-round fixture. However, Tamara Zidansek has played her best game at clay. She reached her only Grand Slam semi-final in the French Open. In addition to that, Zidansek holds the ability to dominate the match on long rallies with the help of her heavy forehand.
On the other side, the American tennis star has a strong backhand, which can guide her to Roland Garros glory. In her recent games, Coco Gauff has dominated the matches on her first serve but nothing can be accurately predicted in tennis. Both players would look forward to getting a positive start in the second-round match.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in straight sets.
