Italian tennis star Jasmine Paolini has lauded Iga Swiatek after she suffered a straight-sets loss against the Pole at the 2024 French Open final.
Jasmine Paolini was playing her first Grand Slam final, where she was up against World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. The 28-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the 2024 French Open. She defeated World No. 4 Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals and 17-year-old Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva in the semi-finals.
However, she failed to lift her maiden Grand Slam title after losing 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and eight minutes against Swiatek. Despite the loss, Paolini was smiling and thanked all the fans, spectators and staff.
In her post-match speech, Paolini addressed her earlier comments, where she stated that playing against Iga Swiatek is one of the biggest challenges in tennis currently. She further affirmed that the Pole has a commendable skill-set and her agility also plays a major role in her success on the red dirt.

Paolini said, “I don’t know. I mean, she’s playing unbelievable here. She’s taking the balls early, taking time to you, but also using rotation. She can defend really, really well. On clay, she’s unbelievable. Also, on hard court, come on she won so many tournaments this year.”
She further added, “But, I think to play her here, it’s something different. She won already four titles and she’s still 23-years-old. These numbers are not normal… they are something unbelievable. I think she’s an unbelievable player.”
Jasmine Paolini also took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank the audience and her supporters. She wrote, “A tough match, but reaching the final was great. I couldn’t have dreamed of this journey. Thanks for all the support from the audience and everyone back home! A big thanks to my team + sponsors.”
Apart from the singles event, Jasmine Paolini also reached the final of the 2024 French Open in the women’s doubles alongside compatriot Sara Errani. In addition, the 28-year-old will also officially become the new World No. 7 with the release of revised rankings.
