Novak Djokovic will face Francisco Cerundolo for the first time on the tour.

Novak Djokovic has reached the fourth round of the French Open 2024, where he’s up against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo. Djokovic hasn’t been in top form in the clay season, as he was eliminated in the third round of the Italian Open, and a metal water bottle also struck his head.

He later entered the ATP 250 Geneva Open, where he was surprisingly eliminated in the semifinals by Tomas Machac. However, the Serb tennis star’s ability to dominate his opponents on the court can’t be overlooked. The ATP World No. #1 is a 24-time Grand Slam champion, and he’s known for blooming at the right time.

On the other side, Francisco Cerundolo’s efforts have been commendable in the recent few months. He reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 Madrid Open, while Cerundolo has also equalled his best finish in a Grand Slam. Nevertheless, the Argentine tennis star’s biggest challenge awaits him in the fourth round of the 2024 French Open.

Novak Djokovic vs Francisco Cerundolo preview

Before the French Open, Novak Djokovic reached the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, where he suffered a disappointing defeat against Casper Ruud. He was later surprisingly eliminated in the third round by Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the Italian Open before losing to Tomas Machac in the semifinals of the ATP 250 Geneva Open.

The Serb played nine matches on the red dirt before Roland Garros, winning six. However, he’s yet to play a final this season. In addition to that, Djokovic has high stakes on the line, as he’ll lose his top rank to Jannik Sinner if he fails to defend his French Open title.

Sinner only had 45 points to defend in the tournament, he has already reached the fourth round, where he’ll be facing Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

Meanwhile, Francisco Cerundolo started his clay court campaign in the United States at ATP Houston. Before the French Open, he played 10 matches on the red dirt, across five different competitions, winning five. His best performance was witnessed at the 2024 Madrid Open, where he defeated Tommy Paul and Alexander Zverev.

After the ATP 1000 tournament, the Argentine tennis star has been flying high at the second Grand Slam of the season. In his French Open campaign, Cerundolo has defeated the likes of Yannick Hanfmann, Filip Misolic and Tommy Paul in the initial rounds.

However, playing against Novak Djokovic will be a greater challenge for Cerundolo, as the ATP World No. #1 is the only remaining player with multiple Roland Garros titles in the tournament yet.

Where and how to watch live streaming and TV broadcast of Novak Djokovic vs Francisco Cerundolo, French Open 2024, fourth round match in India?

The much-anticipated second-round match of the French Open 2024 between Novak Djokovic and Francisco Cerundolo will be available for Indian viewers on the Sony Sports Network and their streaming service, SonyLiv. Tennis enthusiasts can also enjoy the action on Tennis TV.

Prediction

Novak Djokovic, who recently played a five-set marathon against Lorenzo Musetti, has also tied Roger Federer’s record for most Grand Slam match wins (369). The Serb’s fixture against Musetti also breached the former record to become the latest match in the tournament’s history, as it ended at 03:09 AM in Paris.

The ATP World No. #1 has proved that his elite mentality has kept him going in the clay court major. Djokovic has dominated his matches on first serve, while his net game has also been a huge factor in his wins.

On the other side, Francisco Cerundolo is one of the rising stars on the tour; however, he struggles to win points against aggressive baseliners. In 2024, Djokovic has a win-loss record of 14-6, while Cerundolo holds a win-loss tally of 13-15. Thus, the 24-time Grand Slam champion seems like the favourite to win the match on paper.

Result: Novak Djokovic to win in four sets.
