French Open: Nadal and Djokovic reach third round, Sakkari exit

There were more shocking results in the women’s bracket.
The French Open 2022 continued to see the best tennis players on the globe fight it out for victory at the Roland Garros in Paris, France. There were several notable results from Wednesday’s action as the tournament progressed. In the context of Men’s Singles, there were not a lot of upsets.
Tournament favourites Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic won their respective fixtures to make it into the third round. However, over in Women’s Singles, Maria Sakkari and Emma Raducanu bid adieu to the tournament.
Notable Results
Men’s Singles World No.1 Novak Djokovic made short work of his opponent Alex Molcan to defeat him by a 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(4) score. The king of clay Rafael Nadal was also unstoppable as he beat Corentin Moutet in straight sets. The Spaniard won the match 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. Elsewhere, World No. 3 Alexander Zverev was pushed to his limits. He managed to defeat Sebastian Baez in a marathon five-setter that ended 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5 in his favour.
In the Women’s Singles bracket, the highlight of the day was World No.5 Maria Sakkari losing by 7-6(5), 7-6(4) to Karolina Muchova in the second round of the French Open. Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu also bowed out after losing by 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

World No.6 Carlos Alcaraz defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas by a 6-1, 6-7(7), 5-7, 7-6(2), and 6-4 score to advance into the tournament. Causing an upset, Bernabe Zapata Miralles beat World No.13 Taylor Fritz in four sets thanks to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 score. Popular French tennis star and former World No.7 Richard Gasquet was eliminated from the tournament by Sebastian Korda in straight sets as well. Moreover, World No. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime cruised to the third round by beating Camilo Ugo Carabelli in a 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 domination.
World No.14 and 15 Belinda Bencic and Victoria Azarenka advanced into the third round. While the former beat Bianca Andreescu by a 6-2, 6-4 score, the latter recorded a 6-1, 7-6(3) win over Andrea Petkovic in straight sets respectively. Three-time Grand Slam winner, former World No.1, and an Olympic Silver medallist Angelique Kerber secured her place in the third round of the French Open 2022 as well. She beat Elsa Jacquemot in straight sets by a 6-1, 7-6(2) score.
