Hubert Hurkacz reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2021.

Polish tennis star Hubert Hurkacz has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon 2025, just days before the tournament begins, citing a flare-up of a lingering knee injury.

In a post on Instagram, the former World No. #6 revealed that he is dealing with “synovial membrane irritation,” a complication from a previous meniscus surgery. Hubert Hurkacz explained that he needs rest and treatment to recover fully and prioritize his long-term health.

“I’ve been doing everything I can to be ready for Wimbledon, but unfortunately my body isn’t there yet,” Hurkacz wrote. “It’s disappointing, but I have to think long-term.”

The 28-year-old was set to face British wildcard Billy Harris in the first round. With his withdrawal, a lucky loser from the qualifying rounds will replace him in the draw.

Hurkacz’s injury troubles began last year when he withdrew mid-match during Wimbledon 2024 due to knee discomfort. The issue has persisted since, and he has not played a full match on grass this season. He also pulled out of the Libema Open earlier this month.

Fans and tennis experts have expressed concern over his rushed return to the court after surgery. Many took to social media to support his decision and wish him a full recovery.

The withdrawal marks a significant blow to the men’s singles draw, as Hurkacz was considered a strong contender on grass, especially after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2021.

Wimbledon 2025 kicks off next week, now with a reshuffled draw and one less top contender in the men’s field.
