The Indian team has an upper hand as Dane's top-player Holger Rune pulls out of the World Cup.

India will host Denmark on grass courts at the Delhi Gymkhana Club in the Davis Cup World Group playoff I tie on 4th and 5th March 2022. India has got a home tie after three years and Delhi will host Davis Cup matches after more than five years. The Danish team flew to India earlier this week.

Indians are the three-time finalists but will have their hands full against higher-ranked opponents. Delhi Gymkhana Club is an iconic venue with multiple grass courts that will welcome Davis Cup action after a gap of almost five decades. The tie will be played out on the pacy grass courts of the DGC which makes things very exciting indeed.

This is the first time since 2019, that India will host a Davis Cup tie. The tournament, famously sees countries go head to head in team formats. Both nations will have exciting rosters fielding for them on the court, hoping to secure the win.

Recent Performances

The two teams have not played much against each other. The only other time they clashed was in 1927 when Denmark swept India 5-0 in the quarterfinal held in Copenhagen, Denmark. India will now look to make a big impact in the tournament with a win against the Danish team.

The Squad

Denmark is ranked 97th in the world. The Danes team will have Frederik Nielsen as the captain. Denmark will feature Mikael Torpegaard, Johannes Ingildsen, Christian Sigsgaard and Elmer Moller.

The coach

The Denmark tennis team will be coached by Martin Killemose Linnet and Jacob Holst. They are one of the most experienced coaches in the business and will look to use their best insights to help their team register a much-needed win against hosts India

Players to watch

Mikael Torpegaard

Mikael Torpegaard is the top-ranked singles player in the Denmark tennis team. The 27-year-old holds the 210th position in the world rankings and has remarkable strength. Mikael Torpegaard is the second highest-ranked male tennis player from Denmark.  He hasn't won a singles title in his career but could prove to be tough to handle for Indian players.

His best career performance came in the Australian Open last year. Torpegaar reached the first round of the first grand slam of the year.

Frederik Nielsen

The seasoned doubles player Frederik Nielsen has achieved a career-high ranking of 17 in his category.  He is currently the top-ranked player from Denmark in the ATP doubles world rankings. Frederik Nielsen has won three titles in his career so far. The veteran will be a tough nut to crack for the Indian players.

He has partnered with many top players including Caroline Wozniack.

What to expect

India will bank on the advantage as the visiting side's top-ranked player Holger Run has already pulled out of the two-day rubber. Also, the Indian team management decided to have the matches on grass courts after consulting the players as the Danish players won't be comfortable playing on grass. This will the host team an upper hand against Denmark in the Davis Cup.
