World number 2 Aryna Sabalenka is vying for her first title in Rome and is set to face Elina Svitolina in the round of 16 at the Italian Open 2024. Sabalenka skillfully defeated Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska with scores of 6-4, 6-2 in the third round in Rome.
The second seed lost a set against American tennis player Katie Volynets but secured a three-set victory. She then appeared formidable in her subsequent match against the Ukrainian.
Meanwhile, the 16th seed Svitolina is optimistic about advancing to the quarterfinals. The two-time Italian champion hasn’t made it past the quarterfinals since 2018. The 29-year-old has not lost a set in this year’s tournament.
Svitolina ousted Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. She aims to maintain her aggressive play against the world’s number 2. However, Sabalenka is determined to avoid any setbacks in her quest for the title.
