Elina Svitolina, on the other hand, dispatched Sara Errani in a dominant match to advance to the round of 32. Facing the 23rd seed Anna Kalinskaya, the Ukrainian seized the early lead and decisively won the first set.

Kalinskaya managed to level the second set at 2-2, but the 19th-ranked Svitolina quickly regained control, winning four of the following five games to secure her spot in the last 16.

Svitolina’s season started strongly with a finals appearance at the ASB Classic, but her form dipped in subsequent tournaments. However, she has appeared unstoppable in her last two matches.
