This will be the second meeting between both players.

Coco Gauff is in with an excellent opportunity to leave the eternal city as the new World No. 2. Gauff currently trails Aryna Sabalenka by just 185 points. The Belarusian is on 7498 points, while Gauff is on 7313 points.

At the current edition of the Italian Open 2024, Gauff has to find a way past a quarter filled with plentiful competition. Barbora Krejcikova, Zheng Qinwen, Naomi Osaka, Marta Kostyuk and Daria Kasatkina are a few of the names Gauff has to wade through, if the American wishes to make a play for the title, while also returning to the last four for the first time since 2021.

Gauff begins her efforts to equal her best result in Rome in the second round against Magdalena Frech. The Polish player beat Ashlyn Krueger 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Tuesday evening to setup a meeting with No. 3 seed Coco Gauff.

Coco Gauff vs Magdalena Frech – Preview

Magdalena Frech is making her second main draw appearance in Rome. In last season’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia, she reached the Round of 64 after coming through qualifying. After a three-set victory against wildcard Matilde Paoletti, Frech lost to Madison Keys in straight sets, thus ending her maiden journey in Rome.

Fast forward to 2024 and Frech has made a direct entry into the draw in Rome. Having been slotted in a different part of the draw than her vanquisher last year, Frech will not be running into Madison Keys until the Pole progresses to the business end of the tournament.

Coco Gauff managed to get only one step further than Frech last year, crashing to a three-set defeat against Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 32. The American has the better result of the two in Rome, making the semi-final in 2021 only to lose to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.

Where and how to watch the live streaming and TV broadcast of the Italian Open second-round match between Coco Gauff and Magdalena Frech in India?

Prediction

This year, the journey of either Coco Gauff or Magdalena Frech at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia will unfortunately end here. The Rome WTA 1000 event is also the second consecutive tournament where Gauff or Iga Swiatek are projected to meet in the semi-finals. In Madrid, that attempt was thwarted by Gauff’s compatriot Madison Keys.

The numbers and the big stage experience back Gauff in her upcoming second round face-off with Frech. The World No. 3 Gauff has won 70% of her service games this season compared to 61% by Frech. The American is a powerful server, judging by her 103 aces against 33 by her Polish rival.

Gauff will need to trim the number of double faults she makes that could prove costly in crunch situations – 168 from 28 matches this year to only 22 by Frech from 16 outings. At six double faults a match, Gauff makes four times the number of double faults than Frech.

Gauff drives home the advantage while converting break-points – 55.5% to 35.7% by Frech. Gauff also wins more return games compared to Frech – 50.5% to 27.7%. Their win-loss on clay is similar this season, standing at 3-2 for Gauff and 3-3 for Frech.

Result: Gauff to win in three sets.
