Magdalena Frech is making her second main draw appearance in Rome. In last season’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia, she reached the Round of 64 after coming through qualifying. After a three-set victory against wildcard Matilde Paoletti, Frech lost to Madison Keys in straight sets, thus ending her maiden journey in Rome.

Fast forward to 2024 and Frech has made a direct entry into the draw in Rome. Having been slotted in a different part of the draw than her vanquisher last year, Frech will not be running into Madison Keys until the Pole progresses to the business end of the tournament.

Coco Gauff managed to get only one step further than Frech last year, crashing to a three-set defeat against Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 32. The American has the better result of the two in Rome, making the semi-final in 2021 only to lose to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.
