Coco Gauff would relish the idea of meeting Iga Swiatek in the semifinals. If the semifinal match comes to pass, it will be a rematch of the 2021 semifinal between the pair. The ten-match head-to-head rivalry between Gauff and Swiatek began in Rome in 2021. Thus far, Gauff has only managed a single win against the Pole in the 2023 Cincinnati semifinal. 

Zheng will be no pushover when she plays Gauff in the last eight. The Chinese player reached the quarterfinals at Rome last year when she was ranked World No. 22. This year, having made the top ten, she is in her second main draw appearance in the Italian WTA 1000 event. 

Gauff has four main draw appearances in Rome under her belt and has made the semifinal at the event in 2021, where she lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.
