Iga Swiatek has won three WTA titles this year.

Top-ranked Iga Swiatek reached the semifinals of the Italian Open 2024 after she knocked out former finalist Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3 on Tuesday. The Pole is set to play another semi-final this season. So far, Madrid Open champion has marked her presence in the semi-finals of six different tournaments.

The WTA World No. 1 will lock horns with American tennis player Coco Gauff to book her spot in the finals. Swiatek has been a formidable force for her opponents. The 22-year-old tennis sensation has won three WTA titles this season.

Coco Gauff, on the other hand, defeated Chinese tennis star Qinwen Zheng to reach the last four. Gauff had won the 2023 US Open, her first major title, beating World No. #2 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets and becoming the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999.

Since then, the WTA World No. #3 hasn’t won any titles. Nevertheless, the American tennis player would look to surpass the hurdle and win her second WTA title this season.

Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff preview

Coco Gauff has to sweat it out to beat Iga Swiatek on clay. In their 10 outings between the two tennis stars, Swiatek has recorded nine victories, while Gauff had her first win against Swiatek in Cincinnati last year.

Gauff can take some positives from that win, as she knows how to beat Swiatek, which will give her the confidence that she needs against the world-beater.

At the Italian Open 2024, she outplayed the likes of Magdalena Fręch, Jaqueline Cristian, Paula Badosa, and seventh seed Qinwen Zheng to secure a spot in the semifinals. In her last match against Zheng, the 20-year-old flourished and won in straight sets (7-6, 6-1).

Iga Swiatek has not dropped a single set in the tournament yet. Before knocking Madison Keys out, she eliminated Angelique Kerber, Yulia Putintseva, and Bernarda Pera. Swaitek is in fantastic form, as she’s aiming for her fourth WTA 1000 title this season. Meanwhile, Gauff has struggled en route to the semifinals, dropping a set in two of her four matches.

Head-to-head record

Matches: 10

Iga Swiatek: 9

Coco Gauff: 1

Swaitek has shown sheer dominance over Gauff in their head-to-head face-offs. The Pole leads the score by 9-1. The last time they faced each other was in the group stage of the 2023 WTA Finals, where Swiatek won 6-0, 7-5.

Where and how to watch live streaming and TV broadcast of Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff, Italian Open 2024, semi-final match in India?

Unfortunately, there won’t be a live telecast of WTA 1000 matches in India. However, fans can catch the live action of this clash on Tennis TV and WTA TV.

Prediction

On clay, the match is expected to lean towards Swiatek. However, Gauff would look to fight and improve her record against Swiatek. The 20-year-old has reached the last four of the tournament by fighting power with power, but Swiatek’s combination of defence with the ability to use forehand when needed makes her unstoppable.

Gauff will have to be on her toes against her opponent. However, Swiatek will most likely stay in control. Over the last year, Gauff has won 78.87% of matches played (W/L 56/15), with Swiatek winning 88.51% (W/L 77/10).

Gauff and Swaitek have played a deciding set once, with Gauff winning. In recent matches, Gauff has converted 53.99% of breakpoint opportunities, and Swiatek has converted 47.06% of their chances to break their opponent’s serve.

The 20-year-old has been playing remarkable tennis so far in this tournament, but Swiatek’s game has been flawless, and this can be another straight-set win for the WTA World No. 1.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets.
