Jannik Sinner had recently won US Open 2024.

The doping case of Jannik Sinner will be soon coming to an end as the World-Anti Doping Agency (WADA) has decided not to appeal his case for now. Sinner was cleared of any wrongdoing by an Independent tribunal last month as confirmed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA. WADA has requested for more documents related to the case from ITIA and may come to a conlcusion in three weeks according to reports.

The world No #1 had failed two doping tests after testing positive for clostebol in March 2024 in Indian Wells. There were low levels of clostebol detected which was in the list of banned substances of WADA. Clostebol is an anabolic steroid which helps in building muscle and recovery.

In Sinner’s case, the first sample was found to have 76pg (picograms) per millilitre while the second test saw 86pg per millilitre. One picogram amounts to one trillionth of a gram.

The Italian was given a provisional suspension which he successfully appealed. In his defence, Sinner stated that his physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi had a cut on his finger and was given a spray for a cut in his finger by his fitness trainer, Umberto Ferrara. The spray had clostebol and it then came in contact with Sinner during a massage.

The suspension was overturned but Sinner was stripped of the 400 ranking points and $325,000 prize money he earned during Indian Wells 2024. The 23 year old went on to fire Naldi and Ferrara from his team ahead of the US Open 2024. Sinner went on to win the event but there were doubts about his case which is on the verge of a postive verdict with WADA’s decision of no appeal.

What lies ahead for Jannik Sinner with his doping case not being appealed by WADA?

There have been many critics of Sinner from the ATP tour ever since he was allowed to play without facing consequences of failing doping tests. Denis Shapovalov and Nick Kyrgios felt he was treated differently. The doping cloud will always remain over Sinner but he can be relieved that there will be no legal scrutiny of the case for now. The case could be reopened in the next three weeks as suggested by multiple reports.

The US Open 2024 champion will look ahead to scale more landmarks in the upcoming seasons. Sinner has already put the doping case behind him by capturing his second grand slam title at Flushing Meadows. He has proved that his focus will always remain on producing the best tennis on the court amidst all criticism.
