Liam Broady failed to qualify for the US Open, while Jannik Sinner is the top seed.
British tennis star Liam Broady recently took to social media and took another dig at ATP World No. 1 Jannik Sinner amid the Italian’s doping controversy.
Last week, after winning the 2024 Cincinnati Open, Jannik Sinner took to social media and shared an official statement from ITIA on his social media accounts. In the post, it was revealed that Sinner failed two doping tests in March earlier this year during the Indian Wells Masters.
A banned substance, Clostebol, was found in the Italian tennis star’s sample. Clostebol is an anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS), that is derived from testosterone. As per the post mentioned earlier, he had a trace element of the substance in his body, which is less than a billionth of a gram.
As a result of the tests, he was stripped of his prize money and ranking points from the 2024 Indian Wells Masters. After the report was revealed, the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Liam Broady, and Denis Shapovalov took to social media and fired shots at the 23-year-old.
They also accused ITIA of treating the 2024 Australian Open champion differently. The examples of Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova were also brought out, as they stated that Sinner would have been banned for two years.
Recently, the Italian tennis star sat on an interview with ESPN ahead of the 2024 US Open. In the interview, Sinner affirmed that he wasn’t treated differently from other tennis players. The 23-year-old also talked about being stressed after failing the doping tests.
After the interview was released, Liam Broady wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Not treated differently from other players but gets curated, presidential sit-down interviews with ESPN to maintain image. Where’s this energy for everybody else? Never seen anything like this.”
He later took to social media and stated that doesn’t hate Jannik Sinner. Broady lauded the 23-year-old for being a decent tennis player and a great human being.
He wrote on social media, “Crazy thing is some on here think I hate Sinner. I think he’s brilliant. Fantastic tennis player and has always been very humble. Been a huge fan of his since his challenger days which is a lot longer than a lot of the offended people in my mentions have supported.”
