Despite her second-round exit, Maaya Rajeshwaran showed fight and quality.

Indian teen sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi’s journey at the US Open 2025 juniors event came to an end with a loss in the second round on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old from Coimbatore started her match strong against the second seed Hannah Klugman of Britain but couldn’t maintain the momentum, falling 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-3 in a two-hour, two-minute battle at Flushing Meadows.

Maaya had started her campaign with a first-round victory over China’s Zhang-Qian Wei, winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Her campaign also included a first-round exit in the women’s doubles, where she and her partner, Laima Cinalli of Argentina, were defeated 2-6, 2-6 by the fourth-seeded pair of Laima Vladson and Jeline Vandromme.

With her loss, India’s juniors dream run ended, as boys’ doubles players Hitesh Chauhan and Krish Tyagi also exited the tournament in their respective second-round matches. Their singles runs ended in the first round.

Yuki Bhambri enters maiden Grand Slam quarter-finals

Meanwhile, India’s top men’s doubles player Yuki Bhambri marched into the quarter-finals at US Open 2025—the first time he has reached this stage at any Grand Slam event.

Partnering with Michael Venus of New Zealand, the Indo-Kiwi pair defeated the fourth-seeded German duo Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz, who were last season’s finalists, with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in just over 80 minutes.

Last year, Bhambri, paired with Frenchman Albano Olivetti, had reached the pre-quarterfinals at US Open. This year, the Indian made it to his best Grand Slam finish at the same court.
