The Madrid Open 2024, also known as the Mutua Madrid Open 2024, is set to begin on April 23, 2024. This tournament, categorized as an ATP 1000 Masters and WTA 1000 event, will be played on clay courts at the Park Manzanares in Spain. The upcoming year marks the 22nd edition in the men’s category and the 15th edition in the women’s category of this prestigious event.

Last time, it was Aryna Sabalenka who emerged victorious in the women’s singles title, defeating Iga Swiatek in a hard-fought battle with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Notably, Petra Kvitova holds the record for the most women’s singles titles at this event, having won it three times.

The current world no. 5 in the WTA women’s singles ranking holds the position of being a strong contender for winning the title in the upcoming edition of the Madrid Open. Although she hasn’t won any title this year, she has reached the quarter-finals of the Miami Open and the semi-finals of the Charleston Open.
Interestingly, last year she had also made it to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open and ended up as the runner-up in 2022.
4. Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina is having a good run on the court in the ongoing year. She started the year by clinching the Brisbane International by defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Then, she went on to win the Abu Dhabi Open, followed by a runner-up finish at the Qatar Open.
After a quarter-final exit from her campaign at the Dubai Tennis Championships, she entered the final of the Miami Open, where she lost the match to Danielle Collins. She is coming into the Madrid Open clinching Stuttgart Open. With all these listed achievements under her name in 2024, undoubtedly, she is going to be a huge threat to her opponents at the Madrid Open 2024.
3. Coco Gauff
The world no. 3 in the WTA women’s singles ranking, Coco Gauff, is another strong contender for winning the title at the Madrid Open. Gauff started the year with a semi-final finish at the Australian Open.
Although her best finishes at the Madrid Open are third-round losses in the last two editions, she has reached the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open and the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Open in the current year.

The 2024 Australian Open winner in the women’s singles category and the defending champion at the Madrid Open will surely be one of the first choices for winning the title in the current year. Interestingly, she is the only fourth women’s singles player to win the Madrid Open title twice.
Although, after winning the titles at the Brisbane International and Australian Open, Sabalenka’s form has somewhat deteriorated. Still, she holds a strong grasp for being a contender for winning the title in the current edition.
1. Iga Swiatek
The world no. 1 women’s singles player will be a part of the Madrid Open 2024. She was also the runner-up in the previous edition. Going through her recent performances, it is quite evident that she has been in good form and looking to make it count at the upcoming event. Recently, Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek marked 100 weeks as the WTA World No. 1 making her the fifth-youngest woman to achieve this milestone
Moreover, Swiatek has already won two WTA 1000 tournaments in the current year. She first won the Qatar Open and then went on to claim the title at the Indian Wells Open. At the Miami Open, she unfortunately had to face a defeat in the fourth round. It will be interesting to see if she goes one step further in attaining the title this year or not.
