Naomi Osaka seeks US Open 2025 comeback, aiming for first Grand Slam title since 2021.

Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka will look to regain her form and glory at Flushing Meadows in 2025. In a major move, she has parted ways with her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, in less than a year.

On Monday, July 28, Japanese tennis star announced the news via her social media. She wrote, “Merci Patrick. It was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people I have ever met, and I’m sure I’ll see you around.”

The reason behind the major change in her coaching unit seems to be driven by her current struggles on the court. Osaka, who once was a World No. 1 for 25 weeks, has now slipped to No. 49 in the rankings.

This season, the four-time Grand Slam champion holds a 21–12 record and has managed just one title so far, at the L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo, a WTA 125 event. However, this win meant a lot, as it marked the first victory for the Japanese star since becoming a mother.

She took a maternity break in July 2023 and returned to the courts in early 2024. Struggling to find her form back, in September 2024, the former World No. 1 joined hands with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, but the partnership didn’t lead to major improvements.

When it comes to Grand Slams, Osaka’s last major victory was at the 2021 Australian Open. Since then, she has struggled to get past the third round in any Grand Slam tournament.

The US Open 2025 is important to her for several reasons. At Flushing Meadows, she holds a hard-court record of 23 wins against just 6 losses. It’s also the venue where she claimed two of her four Grand Slam titles–including her maiden Grand Slam title.
