Nick Kyrgios withdraws from US Open 2025 due to knee injury

The last time Nick Kyrgios played a singles match was in March 2025 at the Miami Open.
The US Open 2025 has seen another notable withdrawal as former quarter-finalist Nick Kyrgios has decided not to participate in the final Grand Slam of the year, which begins on August 25. His spot in the main draw will be filled by a lucky loser from the final round of qualifying.
Other players who have withdrawn from the Flushing Meadows actions are Arthur Fils, Grigor Dimitrov, Matteo Berrettini, Hubert Hurkacz, and Kei Nishikori.
The 31-year-old Australian last played a singles tennis match in March 2025 at the Miami Open, suffering an early exit after losing in the second round to Karen Khachanov 6(3)-7(7), 0-6.
He later participated in the men’s doubles event at the Washington Open alongside French veteran Gael Monfils, but afterward described his troublesome knee as “cooked.” Since then, fans have been missing his presence on the court.
Why did Nick Kyrgios withdraw from US Open 2025?
Kyrgios cited injury as the reason for his withdrawal, the same knee problem that has long hampered his performances.
Kyrgios was also named to participate in the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship alongside Japanese star Naomi Osaka but he withdrew due to the injury concerns. This had already hinted at his departure from solo work, and it happened exactly as expected.

The last time Kyrgios played in New York was in 2022, where he reached the quarterfinals — his best finish at the tournament. Unfortunately, knee injuries forced him to miss major tournaments for the next two years.
He attempted a comeback at the 2025 Australian Open but lost in the first round to Jacob Fearnley 6-7, 3-6, 6-7. His comeback at the Indian Wells Masters also ended with first-round tragedy, as he lost to Botic van de Zandschulp 6(7)-7(9), 0-3.
It is not yet known when will Nick Kyrgios be in action again.
