Casper Ruud faced Holger Rune for the first time on the ATP tour in 2021.
The ‘Nordic battle’ continues to build the curiosity of the fans as the newly launched trailer saw Casper Ruud and Holger Rune in new avatars. Both of them are top ranked players from their respective nations and will hope to fulfil the expectations of the fans when they clash against each other. The exhibition will take place in multiple venues.
The trailer of ‘Nordic battle’ witnessed Rudd, Rune being shown as Viking warriors battling against each other while overcoming tough waves in the sea. The event winner will be crowned as the real viking of the Nordics. The winner will be determined by the outcome of the first two or three matches.
The champion can win the title by winning the first two matches or if the players win a match each then a champions tiebreak will be the deciding factor. Rune and Rudd can expect polar opposite crowd support in the first two matches as the venue will play a crucial role. The first match is expected to be held in Norway on November 30 and the second match will take place in Denmark on December 3.
Casper Ruud aiming to continue dominance over Holger Rune ahead of Nordic battle
It will be the second meeting between the duo this season. The Norwegian defeated Rune in three sets during the semi-finals at Acapulco in March which was also their first hardcourt meeting. Since then Ruud has captured two titles while the Danish player is yet to lift a trophy this year. Ruud has won 49 matches so far while Ruune has collected 45 wins.
In terms of head to head record, Ruud currently leads with six wins in seven matches. The pair first met in 2021 in the second round of Monte Carlo Masters in which Ruud only conceded three games. He went on to win the next three meetings as Rune finally ended his losing streak in the semi-finals of Rome Masters in 2023.
The Nordic battle will be their second meeting in hardcourt as the pair has faced six times on clay and only once on hardcourts. The result could swing both ways but Rune has the odds in terms of his performances recently. But Ruud has the upperhand considering the fact that he has only lost once in their seven meetings so far.
