Ons Jabeur hasn’t won an event since the Ningbo Open in 2023.
Ons Jabeur took to social media to announce an end to her 2024 campaign. She was pulling the plug due to a persistent shoulder injury. The three-time Grand Slam finalist shared the update on Twitter (now X). She put out the update on Monday (September 16) that she and her medical team decided it would be best to step away from the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old Tunisian has played just one match since Wimbledon. She turned up to play in Toronto but lost in the first round to Naomi Osaka. Jabeur withdrew from Cincinnati, Washington and US Open even though her name appeared in the main draw.
Aside from the lingering shoulder concern, Jabeur was grappling with a right knee problem, which required surgery. As a result, she missed out on the WTA 1000 event in Dubai. Jabeur made the last eight of the Ladies Open in Berlin but retired while playing Coco Gauff with an illness.
The Tunisian tumbled out of the top following her loss and the subsequent exit against Elina Svitolina at The Championships. It was her earliest exit from SW19 since losing to Petra Kvitova in the opening round in the 2014 edition. She is currently ranked No. #22 on the WTA Tour.
By the time of her exit from the elite grouping, she had been among the top 10 for all but one week since October 2021. Her ranking slipped to No. #11 for a week from January 31st, 2022.
She appeared to be on the mend when she reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and Madrid during the 2024 season.

The former World No. #2 intends to keep busy during her time away from the game. According to her candid post on Twitter, she will devote her time to charitable causes with a plan to return to competitive tennis at the season-opening Australian Open in 2025.
Recently, Ons Jabeur collaborated with eL Seed, a Tunisian calligraphy artist, to design a personal logo that “reflects her heritage.”
She is not the only big-name tennis player to lose her footing. Novak Djokovic will end the 2024 season without a Grand Slam. Though he made up for it by winning the Olympic Gold, a much-cherished dream, he announced his decision to readjust his priorities.
In the words of Djokovic, the former World No. #1, “Turin is not my goal at all, to be honest. I am not chasing the ATP Finals. I am not chasing the rankings. My main priorities are playing for the national team and the slams.”
