Karen Khachanov suffered a leg injury in the semi-finals of ATP Paris Masters 2024.

The second semi-final clash in ATP Paris Masters 2024 witnessed heated conversations between Karen Khachanov and Ugo Humbert. The incident occured at the net when the pair arrived for the customary handshake. While Humbert won the match, his celebrations were not appreciated by Khachanov.

The Russian deemed the victory celebrations of Humbert disrespectful. He suffered a leg injury in the sixth game of the third set and despite that the Frenchmen went on to exaggerate his celebrations after every point. Khachanov said, ’I told him at the net to show more respect. He has no idea how to behave. I’m always about fair play. I will congratulate him if he behaves like a normal person. That’s all I can say.’

Khachanov went on to say that he supported players celebrating with the crowd but the circumstances in which Humbert was celebrating was not right. He mentioned that Humbert should have shown a bit of respect instead of celebrating when he was down in the court. During the final point Khachanov started walking towards the net after returning serve indicating his disappointment in the match.

Khachanov had received a medical timeout in the sixth game of the third set. He was unable to move around the court like before which made him lose momentum of the match. Meanwhile Humbert did not respond to his opponent’s comments on the net. He had a confused look on his face and did a shoulder shrug before coming back to the court to celebrate.

The 26-year-old also stared at Khachanov while they were preparing to get off the court. It was the second meeting between the pair as their head to head record now stands at 1-1. The 28-year-old had won the first meeting in 2021 during the quarter-finals of Tokyo Olympics. Both their meetings have gone till the third set.

While Khachanov will look to recover from his leg injury, Humbert will be happy with his runner up performance in the event. He lost in straight sets in the final of ATP Paris Masters 2024 against Alexander Zverev.
