Seven of the top 10-ranked WTA Players are slated to continue their campaign at the WTA Qatar Open 2026. The WTA 1000 event, now in its 24th edition, will welcome back Amanda Anisimova as the defending champion.
Anisimova, the second American after Monica Seles to taste victory in Qatar, defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets to win her maiden WTA 1000 title last season.
Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Belinda Bencic are the three WTA players from the Top 10 who have opted to skip the first WTA 1000 tournament of the season.
With Sabalenka out of the picture, three-time champion Iga Swiatek takes on the mantle of the top seed in Doha. The 2026 Australian Open champion, Elena Rybakina, is set to play for the first time since claiming the hard-court major for the first time Down Under.
Anisimova, the second American to win in Doha after Monica Selesâ 2002 title run, will have to defend 1000 WTA points in a bid to regain the No. 3 spot in the WTA Rankings. Rybakina replaced Anisimova as the World No. 3 following her successful 2026 Australian Open campaign.
Coco Gauff slid down the rankings to No. 5 on the list after a quarter-final exit in Melbourne. Gauff will look to regain lost ground at Doha ahead of the North American hard-court swing, where she has a history of underperforming.
Gauff will hope some of her success from Dubai, where she is a semi-finalist, will carry over to Doha. It was a disappointing campaign in Melbourne for the World No. 5, which ended in a straight-set loss to Elina Svitolina. The reigning French Open champion is yet to cross the quarter-final stage in the Qatari capital.

Mirra Andreeva and Victoria Mboko, two teenagers with WTA 1000 titles under their belt, will also be making a beeline for Doha. Andreeva will look to have another successful trip to the Middle East, having won in Dubai last season. Mboko is making her debut in the Middle East swing.
Australian Open quarterfinalist Iva Jovic. Naomi Osaka, Marta Kostyuk and Eva Lys are the other notable absentees from the 2026 Qatar Open.
Rybakina vs Andreeva and Anisimova vs Svitolina are some of the interesting storylines likely to emerge deep into the tournament. Swiatek is seeded to meet Jasmine Paolini in the last eight. Gauff has a quarter-final clash with hard-hitting Ekaterina Alexandrova on the horizon.
