Stefanos Tsitsipas did not participate in the tournament due to an injury.

Two-time Grand Slam runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas took to social media and heaped praise on Novak Djokovic, who won his 101st ATP title. The 27-year-old Greek was invited to the 2025 Hellenic Championships final in Athens.

Tsitsipas, who currently resides in Monte Carlo, was born in Athens and was delighted that the ATP 250 event was taking place on his home soil.

Greece hosted their first ATP event since 1994, and Djokovic became the first champion in the capital city. The Athens Open was part of the tour from 1986 to 1994. It was abolished in 1994, with Spain’s Alberto Berasategui being crowned the last men’s singles champion in the Greek capital. After more than three decades, the event returned on the tour with a new name.

Tsitsipas did not participate in the event due to an injury; however, he was present in the crowd while the fixture between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti was being played at the Telekom Centre in Athens.

After the match ended, Tsitsipas was called on the court, where he shared a few moments with both the finalists.

The Greek tennis star also posed alongside Djokovic and Musetti for a photo opportunity. He then took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a video with the caption, “This week, Greece hosted its first ATP event since 1994; the first in my lifetime. Although I could not compete in it, I enjoyed being courtside for @DjokerNole’s triumph – making him the first tennis player to win a title in 20 different countries.”

After some time, Tsitsipas again took to social media and shared a picture alongside Djokovic and Musetti. He uploaded the picture with the caption, “Meet your new History teacher. Today, we’ll study Djokovic 101.”

Currently 34th in the ATP rankings, Tsitsipas last played at the Six Kings Slam, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in the first round in 76 minutes. The 27-year-old has primarily been out of action due to injuries and fitness concerns.

Tsitsipas has also shown a desire to return to the top five of the global rankings; however, considering his current form, achieving this goal seems difficult.

In 2025, Tsitsipas maintained a win-loss record of 22-18, winning only one title, the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Meanwhile, he was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships. He managed to reach the second round of both the French Open and the US Open, his best performance in a Major this year.
