Sumit Nagal recently achieved his career-best ranking of 80.
Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal has stated that he will be training and taking rest for the next two or three weeks before he returns to action.
Nagal is currently enjoying a breakthrough year in 2024. In January, the Indian tennis star defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in straight sets at the Australian Open. Later in February, he managed to break into the top 100 of the ATP rankings following a title win at the ATP Chennai Challenger, where he defeated Luca Nardi in the finals.
Last week at the Monte Carlo Masters, he took down the likes of Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi and then also won a set against Holger Rune in the Round of 16. However, constant travel and regularly competing in events can be a tiring processes. As a result, the 26-year-old has decided to take two or three weeks off from tennis action.
Nagal said (via RevSportz), “I will be training for the next two or three weeks and then play again.”
Nagal also talked about achieving his career-best ranking of 80. He stated that it’s only a small milestone in his tennis journey, as he’s looking forward to breaking into the top 50 of the rankings.
Nagal stated: “It’s just a small milestone of where I want to be. I need to keep pushing and keep improving if I want to break into the top 50 this year.”
Nagal also earned himself a direct spot in the main draw of the 2024 French Open when he became the first Indian to reach Roland Garros after Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019.
In addition to that, the 26-year-old is also getting prepared for the Wimbledon Championships, scheduled to take place from July 1 to 14 July later this year.
