Sumit Nagal vs Jurij Rodionov prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: French Open 2025 qualifying

Nagal will be India’s lone singles hope, should he qualify for the main draw.
India’s No #1 in singles, Sumit Nagal, is going through a rough patch. While it is not easy to carry the weight and expectation of a billion fans, Nagal has witnessed a massive decline in ranks. A year ago, the Indian secured direct qualification to the French Open, but fast forward to the present, he must prove himself in the qualifying rounds for a spot in the main draw.
Politics within the Indian Tennis Association haven’t helped Nagal, who was looking for a breakthrough tournament. Despite playing lower ranked competitions, the former top-70 Indian has simply failed to hit the ground running this season and currently finds himself at #169 on the ATP rankings chart.

- Round: Q2
- Date: May 21
- Venue: Stade Roland Garros, Paris
- Surface: Clay Court
Preview
Sumit Nagal enters Paris on the back of three-consecutive first round defeats. The Indian has been unable to enter the main draw directly in different parts of the world, and has had to toil hard in the qualifying stages. While Nagal has found decent success in the qualifying rounds, he has found it very challenging against higher ranked opponents.
At Roland Garros, his first goal will be to secure a main draw entry. Nagal registered an impressive and convincing victory over Mitchell Krueger in his Q1 clash, but comes up against a tough opponent in the form of Jurij Rodionov. The Austrian stunned Christopher Eubanks in the Q1 round, and has been in better form this year, winning 15 matches out of 27.

Match Prediction
Nagal will be cheered on by the whole of India, but his recent form inspires little confidence. Rodionov, on the other hand, has enough experience in Paris, having registered a career-best second-round appearance. While Nagal’s baseline game and fighting spirit can trouble opponents, he’ll need to significantly raise his level to get past the left-handed Austrian, who thrives on clay.
Result: Jurij Rodionov will win in three sets.
