US Open 2022: Serena, Murray suffer defeats in third round

Nick Kyrgios will meet Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16 clash.
The 2022 US Open is advancing well and the competition is becoming more intense with every passing day. Day 5 saw many high-profile players in action, including the legendary Serena Williams. Despite being a favourite, she lost her Round 3 clash to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović by 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6. With her retirement a major part of the discussion, Williams may not return next year but her status of being one of the greatest women’s tennis players ever will remain.
The top seed in Men’s Singles Daniil Medvedev was his usual self during a straightforward 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win over China’s Wu Yibing. He is the reigning champion and looks in a sensational touch to retain the title. Andy Murray was one of the notable eliminations from the day. The former US Open winner lost in four sets to Matteo Berrettini by a 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 3-6 score.
