US Open 2022: Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek march into Round of 16

The fifth day saw some entertaining matches at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The US Open 2022 entered its 5th Day on Saturday. Rafael Nadal continued to march towards another grand slam title as he maintained a clear dominance over his french rival Richard Gasquet. This is his 18th straight victory over Gasquet as he enters another Round of 16 of the US Open. World No. 1€ Iga Swiatek downed unseeded Lauren Davis 6-3, 6-4 to book a place in the last 16 on Saturday. Here is a round-up of all the results from Day 5 of the US Open 2022.
Men’s Singles
Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the fourth round of the US Open after defeating Jenson Brooksby of the United States 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. The Spaniard did so on the back of 46 winners. Alcaraz will now face 2014 champion Marin Cilic for a place in the quarter-finals. World No. 7 Cameron Norrie of Britain defeated Danish Holger Rune 7-5, 6-4, 6-1 in the third round match. He will now face Russian Andrey Rublev, who overcame Shapovalov's challenge, punching him out with the scoreline 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (10-7).
France Tiafoe made the last 16 for the third successive year by seeing off Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, 6-4. He is now set to face off Nadal. Marin Cilic edged past Britain’s Dan Evans in a 7-6 (13/11), 6-7 (3/7), 6-2, 7-5 win.
Women’s Singles
Petra Kvitova defeated Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (12-10) and is now set to clash with Jessica Pegula of the United States for a quarter-final place. Semi-finalist of 2021, and sixth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka edged past French qualifier Clara Burel, 6-0, 6-2 in just 68 minutes to register her place in the last 16. Eighth seed Pegula knocked out Chinese qualifier Yuan Yue, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0.
Three-time runner-up Victoria Azarenka eased past Petra Martic 6-3, 6-0 to set up a last-16 clash with 2016 finalist Karolina Pliskova who downed Olympic champion Belinda Bencic 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 on Day 5 of the US Open on Saturday.
Men’s Doubles
N. Kyrgios and T. Kokkinakis defeated A. Goransson and Y. Nishioka 6-4, 7-6 to reach to the round of 16 of the US Open. They will now face eleventh seed L. Glasspool and H. Heliövaara.
Women’s Doubles
Twelveth seed S. Sanders and C. Dolehide defeated 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to book a place in the round of 16. They will now take on seventh seed Y. Xu and Z. Yang in the round of 16 match.
Mixed Doubles
While in the mixed doubles, fifth-seeded A. Krajicek and J. Pegula were knocked out by S. Stosur and M. Ebden 7-6, 6-4 in the round of 16. The winners will now face E Roger-Vasselin and K. Flipkens in the quarter-finals.
