US Open 2022: Rafael Nadal crashes out in fourth round

The top two seeds in Men’s Singles are out of the tournament.
The 2022 US Open is becoming a story for the underdogs as more top seeds crash out before reaching the latter stages of the Grand Slam. Perhaps one of the biggest upsets occurred on Day nine when American Frances Tiafoe beat the second seed, Rafael Nadal, by 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16.
The 24-year-old made his way to the quarterfinal after defeating a four-time US Open champion following a strong performance. The fourth round saw the elimination of top seed Daniil Medvedev and Nadal becomes the second high-profile player to bow out at this stage in Men’s Singles. Over at the Women’s Singles, the story was different as top seed Iga Swiatek marched on into the next round. She had to come back after losing the first set to Jule Niemeier and win by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 score.
The day’s action had plenty more entertaining contests in different categories. Here is a look at some of the key results from Day 8 of the US Open 2022 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City:
Men’s Singles
Cameron Norrie’s journey at the US Open 2022 came to an end following a defeat to Andrey Rublev. The seventh seed lost the clash by 4-6, 4-6, 4-6 to bow out from the championship. Jannik Sinner of Italy had to struggle against Ilya Ivashka for five sets before recording an impressive 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win.
Women’s Singles
Jessica Pegula was also one of the winners and she is one of the American hopes to win a category at the 2022 US Open. The 28-year-old beat Petra Kvitova, the 21st seed, by 6-3, 6-2 to advance in the bracket. She will face top seed Iga Swiatek in the next round, which will be an uphill battler considering the Pole’s form.
