Plenty of high-profile players were in action on the tournament's third day.

The 2022 US Open is underway with several top-class tennis athletes trying to advance into the latter stages of the championship. The year-ending Grand Slam at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City is already witnessing sensational tennis action in various categories.

The reigning champion in Men’s Singles, Daniil Medvedev was in exceptional form as he went past Arthur Rinderknech. It took the top seed two hours and 11 minutes to secure a 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 victory over the Frenchman. Legendary American Serena Williams also won on the day to march into Round 3. The 23-time Grand Slam winner beat second seed Anett Kontaveit in a thrilling contest by a 7-6(7-4), 2-6, 6-2 score.

In one of the major upsets of the day, Maria Sakkari, the third seed in Women’s Singles, lost to China’s Wang Xiyu by 6-3, 5-7, 5-7 score. There were many more high-profile matches on the day and here are the key results from the Day 3 of the 2022 US Open in New York:

Men’s Singles

Former US Open winner Andy Murray took four sets to beat Emilio Nava of the United States by a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 score. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios also took four sets to march into the next round after a 7-6(7-3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Benjamin Bonzi of France.

Casper Ruud of Norway cruised into the next round as well. The fifth seed won his match by 6-7(4-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 against a spirited Tim van Rijthoven. He will face America’s Thomas Pual in the next round who got the better of his compatriot, Sebastian Korda, by a 6-0, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 score. It was a disappointing outing for sixth seed Félix Auger-Aliassime who was shown the exit door by unseeded Jack Draper by a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 score.

Women’s Singles

Ons Jabeur was flawless yet again in her 7-5, 6-2 win over Elizabeth Mandlik of the United States of America. Coco Gauff also made her way into the next round following a 6-2, 7-6(7-4) score.

Unfortunately for Leylah Fernandez, her progress in the 2022 US Open came to an abrupt end in Women’s Singles this year. The 19-year-old Canadian was the surprise finalist last year but lost her second-round fixture this time. Liudmila Samsonova beat her by a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) score.

Men’s Doubles

The Men’s Doubles matches began on the third day of the 2022 US Open and top seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury took one hour and ten minutes to secure a 6-4, 6-4 win over Federico Coria and Cristian Rodriguez.

India’s Ramanathan Ramkumar and his partner Nikola Cacic lost their opening round fixture by 6-4, 6-4 to 15th seeds Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolleli of Italy.
